Homeland - The story behind the collection
The amount of detail gone into the motif is what stands out in this collection. Growing up as a British-Pakistani, Our founder has always felt a strong link to her ethnicity and have been fascinated about the culture in all its entirety.
This collection was inspired by the wake of Islam in South constituency of Asia in 712 C.E. This brought about new ways of life with new principles and equality for all, new sets of beliefs and new concepts of arts and crafts. As the Muslim culture spread among the Subcontinents, it affected the time old traditions in all its visible facets such as architecture, surface patterning, fresco, forms or armoury, new shapes and decor for pots and pans and many more. These changes morphed the cultural identity to what we know now – the rise of grandeur mosques, forts, palaces and gardens within the region cemented a unique style for an equally unique nation.
The magnificence of these historical monuments (such as Badshahi Mosque) and its ever-opulent décor is what inspired this collection. It captures the history in all its glory and pays homage to a huge turning point in history.
Why scarves you may ask?
Throughout history, the style and use of clothing has changed dramatically, but one item of clothing that has remained the same and all-important within the culture is the scarf. It’s a huge part of South-Asian culture to this day, a timeless accessory which has been here since the beginning of time and will be till the end.
